Clever use of the materials at hand!
Thursday, November 30th, 2006

Inspired by the recent Daily WTF article, some colleagues of mine developed an ingenious solution to a server timeout problem.

A connection to a server would time out after 2 minutes of inactivity, to counteract this whilst an application was being installed they attached an optical mouse to a rotating fan to simulate movement. Genius!

iStock photo contributor application
Monday, November 27th, 2006

It was starting to get a little depressing. I had tried unsuccessfully five times to apply as an iStock photo contributor. You know how it is, friends and family tell you they like your photos; eventually you begin to think that hey, that photo wasn’t bad.

Snap and Twitter on the wind
Friday, November 24th, 2006

To be a valid blockquote there must be an inner block level containing element such [...]

The continued adventures of the Permalink slideshow
Sunday, November 19th, 2006

In implementing the permalink slideshow for a few projects at work, it is now improved and a lot easier to set up. You can find the most recent version of the code here: http://natbat.net/code/clientside/js/permalinkSlideshow/slideshow.js (working example)
The idea now is that if you just follow a simple structure for your html, and create an additional stylesheet [...]

A cautionary tail of Juniper berries
Friday, November 10th, 2006

You don’t think of Sainsburys as somewhere you would generally find poisonous berries, let alone nestled innocently in the spice rack. However, steer well clear of juniper, or if you are tempted use sparingly!.
When I went to university I couldn’t cook more than pasta and cheese sauce, and not very well at that. Over 5 [...]
